one of two purple hats to complete the christmas knitting i have been doing.

both hats are based on this pattern but with significant alterations.

the yarn is lovely! a rich depth of colour with subtle variation throughout and less than 1 skein per hat.

and the best news?

i have 1 skein of this yarn left over for a small christmas giveaway!

felicitous

felicity: noun, 1. the state of being happy, esp. in a high degree. 2. an instance of this. 3. a source of happiness. 4. a skilful faculty. 5. an instance or display of this. 6. good fortune.

i pretty much totally mucked up the first attempt at this pattern so it is now a 'mini felicity': my experience an utter contradiction in terms... not the pattern's fault - i must own it all. a fair representation on my current state of mind. anyway. now on to the 2 adult sizes i planned for christmas gifts.

actually, i would think i am a mostly felicitous type of person. unfortunately i feel i am barely holding everything together at the moment. one huge year drawing to a close. i won't be sad to see the back of 2009. some truly wonderful times have been had, but fingers crossed 2010 will be a far less stressful affair.

and the photo in the background? my great grandmother. i have this lovely pair of photo cases; one each for her and my great grandfather from the early 1900s. something i treasure. she was quite the adventurer for the day: a nanny to some English girls in Egypt before her marriage - we have fabulous photos of her on a camel in front of the sphinx.

superfine

my 7 year old son spent a couple of hours working out my camera features yesterday while i worked. he only took some 200 odd photos: the continuous shooting mode was particularly popular...

i managed to wrestle back the camera for a little time with the macro lens.

oh ho ho! that lens is incredible!

this is the end of a superfine merino habu yarn.

i think the wool classers of this country would be pleased with these micro fibres.

cashmere confessions

not that this comes as any surprise, but i confess i cannot sit down without doing something.

and so, after selling our house on saturday and having finalised a few other projects, i found myself with some available time. and finally, finally, i have seamed my cashmere knit.

smooshy soft with slouchy comfort and credible style. bliss.

and another confession: i haven't washed it yet so it still has a slight oily smell but i want to wear it, wear it, wear it. [that novel/new feel is peaking.]

and so, back to square one: a few hours trawling through ravelry is high on my agenda. we can't have me sitting around with nothing to do!
