well, it's left my building.
and entered some other building.
on its way to another building.
i will show and tell upon receipt by the recipient. promise.
a quick post. an update, i suppose. desperately trying to finish up a couple of projects.
two things at the top of the list:
'where are you, blue kangaroo' for anais' birthday party this weekend. a favourite series of books.
i was a little disconcerted when she said, 'blue kangaroo, and he's orange'... erm. no he's not! she hasn't seen this little fellow yet but she did come in with big eyes yesterday to say 'mum, come look, blue kangaroo!' as she could sneak a small peek in his craft bag... promptly swept out of sight as it is to be one of the main party games! 'pin the tail on blue kangaroo' is another... of course.
and the other is backtack 4. just finishing my gift element. that date has snuck up on me.
and the good news? well, i am making 2 blue kangaroos; sharing some of the birthday love with a small celebratory giveaway later this week. stay tuned.
list, n. a record consisting of a series or the like; a careening, or leaning to one side.
yep. i think that nails it for me.
my life is a series of lists. with a definite careening occurring, too.
my present life in lists:
1. the work list, or 'project status' as i like to call it. growing longer by the week and updated daily to try and maintain some sense of where i am at.
2. the sewing list. i made a november sewing list, such was my wish. sadly, i have only managed to finish 2 things from that list and i simply MUST finish another 2 minimum.
3. the christmas list. thankfully shorter this year. but still some tricky ones. as there always is.
4. my amazon wish list. enough said.
5. bloglines list. something i check way too often.
6. women's clothing sizes list. in aust, uk, usa and europe.
7. wool/yarn weight list. with the australian ply equivalent 'cos i'm a little slow to catch on.
8. ravelry queue. of course. regularly updated and pondered.
9. facebook friends. a recent addition to my life of lists. and also checked way too frequently to be healthy. procrastination is another word for it.
10. the holiday list. the list of all the crap i need to take on holidays when we go to the beach. thankfully, also getting shorter.
11. the ipod list. i use the list app all the time. perfect when i am sitting at traffic lights to update and coordinate my life. it has lists for ready referral for sewing requirements, skin care, ikea, anais, tom, anais' 3rd birthday party next weekend.
12. 12? good grief. get a life, kirsten. the miscellaneous list. you know the one. those other things you need to do. like contact symantec to complain about the dodgy virus protection you bought 6 months ago... reposition the buttons on my habu jacket. ring the joiner for new kitchen overhead cupboards. write up thursday threads knit pattern. finish my wrap skirt. bake a practice birthday cake.
and you? have i missed something i should have been listing??
arranging a photo shoot with an almost-three year old model.
(honestly, i don't know how the professionals do it but i take my hat off to them!)
this little tunic has been in mind for quite some time.
and when a friend gave me this fabric recently, i knew it was perfect: circles within circles. and yellow really suits her.
i have a top from this local melbourne designer with a similar detail at the lower back. on my top, it performs double duty of cinching to create a flattering waist on a simple peasant style top along with the interesting visual detail at the back.
this detail, of course, doesn't really 'work' in that sense on this tunic but it will provide 'air conditioning' for those hot summer days ahead! and she is at least wearing it which is more that can be said for this other version i made last summer (even if we needed to add the tshirt for some extra warmth today).
and there is a similar technique illustrated in this brilliant book.
i am hoping her birthday party in a fortnight will provide a warm day that she might be able to wear it. but she of the independent spirit will rule the day. no doubt about that.
i am now debating denim pantaloons to go with it. she has a penchant for shorts so i might get away with it. or not.
although she has just picked up a multi-coloured stripe cotton and asked for shorts from it, so you never know your luck...

i love the concept of simple, of plain modern:

i attempt to design items stripped bare of superfluous decoration and detail. elemental. simple.
the trick is to apply some of that concept to my life as well as my aesthetic.
perhaps a new year's resolution. or two.
