amid school holiday chaos here:

with a dose of the flu (the papa)
another ear infection (the miss)
a bored schoolboy (the master)
and much work (the mama).

stealing small snippets
of luxurious knitting
in the margins
is sweet pleasure.

wabi sabi?

dropped in to one of my favourite haunts on saturday morning after a client meeting. and i only came home with a couple of vintage japanese timber spools.

plus a bag full of yarns from dairing. You. Have. Got. To. Go. it's habu heaven.

and no prizes for guessing what i think i will make with this yarn and spool. no knitting required.

decided upon a simple A line skirt for this divine fabric.

simple. but i only just squeezed it out of the 1m i had (note the directional fabric).
simple. but it needs to be lined (note the winter stockings).
simple. but sorry for the poor photography (note the winter light).

simple. but i love it. perfectly melbourne.

this is my original concept for the sev[en]circle design using this sock yarn.

a finer, more decorative neckpiece than the first.

anais has been enjoying using some of the rather, ahem, seriously old wheat bags lurking about so i suggested we make her a new wheat bag creature and she can select the fabrics: voila! one happy little camper.

of course, once tom saw it, he was extremely eager for one of his own.

this piece was designed while resting with anais last sunday afternoon.

the thought and finished image invaded my cluttered mind.

momentary clarity.

and an urge to Start Knitting Immediately.

thankfully, i had some stash yarn that had sufficient weight, sheen and, most imporantly, yardage.

with my receipt of the yarn that prompted the design, i have also cast on to create a more delicate neckpiece version.

when i saw this fabric from the uber-talented lara cameron, i eagerly ordered a metre. a particularly melbourne colourway.

it is possibly my most favourite printed fabric. ever.

i received a parcel in the mail that was intended for you. but i couldn't wait for you to get home from school to make it with me. but it is hanging in your room if that is any consolation.

and i thought we could make one of these together instead.

oh, and i was so pleased you loved your Homage a Piet Mondrian class at Artplay on Sunday that i have booked you in for the Brack studio, too. i can't wait to see what you create.

do remind me to tell you about this. i was thinking we could squeeze it in around coffee here. what do you think? or would you prefer this?
