D house project

an update on a work project:

a new house to be constructed on a green-field allotment about an hour's drive out of melbourne.

my initial concept in response to the client brief involved 2 bisecting box-like elements that 'hinged' about the kitchen/heart-of-home space:

1.   the main living and working wing facing north with defined entry
2.   the children's wing and amenities/car storage wing effectively separated at the intersection

whilst much remains from that intial sketch, so much has changed:

inevitable modifications and refinement continue, services coordination, materials crystallise, details evolve, forms emerge.

taking a rare few minutes to reflect and document this process, i remember with gratitude that this is what it's all about for me; the answer to why i do what i do.

thursday

makes 1

utensils:
1 circular needle
1 pair of patient hands

ingredients:
1 thread habu fine merino thread
1 thread habu fine ramie thread
1 short thread habu linen yarn
handfuls of patience

method:
blend threads using many tiny stitches
extrude stitches to express detail
gently simmer and repeat
whisk together with patience
form armholes using reduction method
remove from heat and
apply graft to shoulders
add dash of linen to pleat

to serve:
layer your light, airy and surprisingly warm seamless thursday over your preferred side order.

we just bought a new house.
well, to clarify, a "new to us" house.
with room to move! and a pool!

now we just have that minor detail of selling our current house.
with
a little decluttering and rearranging and cleaning and replacing and decobwebbing and touchups and
packing and sorting and filing and selling and tossing and reinstating and wiping and boxing and
painting and fixing and tidying and trimming and fitting and finishing and emptying and fiddling and
straightening and purchasing and removing and tightening and mopping and adjusting and vacuuming
and keeping and dusting and mulching and plumping and washing and phone calls and finances and
FREAKING OUT.

oh, and you know, a few thoughts and dreams for the new house...

the fringe

life is a little s t r e t c h e d here at the moment.

i survived the school holidays.
i should print a tshirt with that slogan.
i'm sure i would sell a truckload of them.

now a perfect storm
of design documentation is descending
a blur of work, work. and work.

add in the possibility of purchasing a new house.
oh, the possibilities! the planning! the logistics!

needless to say,
opportunities to dwell in the creative fringe
are scarce.
