curly | leggings

 
i attempted a pair of the pattern magic 3 'curly' leggings for anais:

fail!

way too long for her

[a poor miscalculation about the effect of fabric weight + drape on my behalf]

and not her cup of tea at all

["can you cut off these bunchy bits"]

but

never fear

my beautiful friend, hannah,

with the perfect legs for the style,

was more than happy with them.

score!

 

 

and yes, i think our blue tongue lizard was also eyeing them off...

sewjourn | weekend

the weekend that was:

so good to get away with a great group of crafting types

and hit the sewing machine hard!

i worked on 8 or so sewn garments,

to varying degrees of completion.

[and 1 knitting machine piece still under construction]

 

3 of them here:

the long-sleeve wool merino knit

the over-sized wool mesh top

the pin-striped wool pants.

 

all 3 my own design:

developing previous incarnations.

i'm loving the new ensemble!

 

 

 

 

 

mesh | leggings

i've long wanted a pair of transparent mesh black leggings

and stumbled across some glorious black wool mesh

at a local fabric store*.

yes, wool.

i was willing to accept anything in the black mesh spectrum

so this was an unexpected bonus.

 

L E G G I N G S

the pattern

grab a pair of your favourite leggings,

trace the shape of one full leg to waist onto paper.

add 20cm extra length to the ankles.

measure overall length of new pattern [ie 95cm or 110cm]

the fabric

purchase enough mesh fabric to, typically, match the length of your leg pattern [ie 1m or 1.25m],

width of your fabric should be at least 100cm wide.

with selvedges together, fold the mesh fabric in half lengthwise;

then fold the mesh fabric lengthwise again (4 thicknesses of fabric in total).

place outside leg of pattern onto doubled fold-line (opposite side to the selvedge);

cut around your pattern (this allows you to cut 2 legs at once).

the garment

set up overlocker or sewing machine to rolled hem setting

stitch around ankle edge.

with right sides together, seam up the inside leg of both legs.

turn one leg to the right side and tuck into other leg

with gusset edges together [ie centre back to centre back, etc.],

seam.

note: i then tried mine on and ended up bringing in the legs a little more at this point.

grab some 2.5cm wide black elastic;

measure your waist dimension + cut elastic to suit.

stitch to top/waist edge.

turn right side out.

voila!

* this store sells random rolls + end of run fabrics:

sometimes a desert,

sometimes a rare gem in the desert,

sometimes a veritable goldmine.

this was of the 'rare gem in the desert' ilk.

stylin' the pink

she's one stylin' bear:

and happy to help on-site

providing its pink

[she will be bitterly disappointed].

 

note: outfit made to specific and exacting demands from bear-carer*.

i did manage black + white stripe leggings.

now i'm expected to simply whip up a 'jumper';

it might be possible on the knitting machine

or a pink merino jersey ballet-wrap might suffice.

 

personally, i'd be feeling a tad too 'hippy' in that tutu

but she seems at ease in her own fur.

all power to her, i say.

 

*tough task-maker.

finally a relatively clear area in the new addition for a photo.

scalloped above the knee at the back.

well, her mum does.and i surely do.

 

and, di, dress her while you can.

[it won't last long!]

 

 

nani iro blouse

a second [short] version of the fabulous nani iro dress:

i love wearing it with these.

 

the deep V at the back provides

interesting geometric tan lines!

 

the beautiful double gauze cotton

is a definite favourite;

with enough left over to

make a wee something

for a wee someone

[yes, cut out + awaiting sewing!].

almost the last of my craft camp projects finally finished:

summer tunic from this book.

 

with modifications:

stitched the train element into the left side seam

[to eliminate the super-girl-cape look]

added 2 grosgrain ties to right side and 1 to left

[to eliminate the hessian sack look]

 

i love the movement gained with the train and ties

[ 2 black, 1 light grey].

and while perfectly light and summery :

it also looks great paired with these pants

or simple black leggings.

ah, the sweetness!

so, okay, she's got it with pink

but even i will live with that.

a double whammy of children's concerts tonight.

'tis the season!
