兜 | KABUTO

Please welcome the newest member of my knit family:

兜 | Kabuto :  Japanese for (n) helmet from from traditional Japanese Samurai Armour circa 16th Century.

This hat uses reverse stocking stitch to provide a monolithic dimension to the knitted fabric, whilst stocking stitch stripes and an assymmetric vertical expressed seam edge provides interest and detail. Short-row shaping at the nape ensures a stylish slouch and fit to the head.

Worked here in yellow silk [Shibui Heichi] and grey wool [Brooklyn Tweed Shelter].

The pattern has 4 sizing options and suitable for either sex.

This is an extension of my earlier Tekkō Arm/Handwarmers and partners perfectly with these.

spring | sunshine

slightly out-of-season now but

i finally took some completed photos

of my winter | sunshine jacket.

[and it's silk so really quite perfect for spring]

 

love this mustard yarn

and the jacket is a dream to knit.

inspired by the blue of this linen

and thoughts of summer,

i designed this sweet linen skirt

for my girl with the french name.

seemed appropriate to give the skirt a french name, too!

starting to get myself in the right frame of mind:

craft camp at the end of the month.

 

current sewing to do list:

perhaps another nani iro tunic

a tshirt with shirt sleeves

a skirt or dress for anais

with a matching one for her bear

some shorts for tom

a summer poolside tunic for me with some dyed fabric

another pair of these summer pants for me

ooo.

and i need to finish a tunic from last craft camp. oops.

and i'd like to play with some natural dyeing.

my mum took my two children to see the queen today:

anais practised her curtsies;

tom simply pleased with a day off school.

 

after much patient waiting

she duly appeared

with anais in prime position.

 

HRH kindly accepted both anais' curtsy and posy,

gave her a smile and a thank you,

and a follow up hello from the prince!

 

it was then off to catch another glimpse

of her majesty in the tram

and home to tell all. what a day!
